| Commercial Pilot - Helicopter |
|

|
|
The Commercial Pilot Course consists of five stages of training. A stage check
will be conducted at the completion of each level of training to determine if
the student has satisfactorily met the objectives outlined in the Flight Training
Curriculum for each phase -of training. The following is a brief description
of each stage:
|
STAGE I
During this stage, the student is introduced to basic helicopter maneuvers and
in-flight emergencies in preparation for his/her first solo flight. Primary maneuvers
are demonstrated and practice d to include air taxiing and normal take-offs and
landings. The student will also become proficient in both straight-in and 180
degree autorotations. Simulated forced landings are emphasized to determine that
the student can safely enter an autorotation in the event of an emergency. The
student will enter his/her first solo flight in this stage.
STAGE II
The student will become familiar with advanced helicopter maneuvers during this
stage.
Maximum performance take-offs, running take-offs and landings will be demonstrated
during this stage, and practiced by the student.
STAGE III
During this stage, the student will be introduced to cross-country flights. Preflight
preparation and planning, procurement of weather, radio and dead reckoning navigation,
and VOR/ADF tracking will be taught in the classroom and applied to actual flight
conditions. The Private Pilot test will follow
STAGE IV
During this stage, the student will increase his/her knowledge and skill in helicopter
flight operations by continuous review and practice of maneuvers and procedures.
Solo cross-country flights will be emphasized to increase the student's confidence
and abilities. Instruction in confined area operations, off airports will be
included and practiced at various landing sites. Rapid descents with power and
recovery will be demonstrated to familiarize the student with the indications
and recovery of settling with power.
STAGE V
In the final stage, the student will review and practice maneuvers, procedures
and emergency operations as necessary to prepare for the flight test. Autorotations
to the ground will be practiced until proficient. The Chief Flight Instructor
